Studentships
The Douglas Bomford Trust offers a limited number of scholarships each year, to support students of agricultural engineering to achieve appropriate qualifications and to go on to successful careers in the industry; applicants are interviewed in November-December following a written application detailing their reasons for applying for funding.
Recipients for 2021 are all studying at Harper Adams University:
- Robert Bryning, 5th year, MEng Agricultural Engineering
- Thomas Bowers, MEng Agricultural Engineering
- Will Flittner, MEng Agricultural Engineering
- Alex Williams, MEng Agricultural Engineering
- Rhodri Williams, BEng/BEng Hons Agricultural Engineering
They are all spending their sponsorship wisely on a wide range of purposes to assist their studies and research projects. These include developing knowledge of software programming and constructing prototype robots for use in challenging environments (eg manure collection); purchasing or upgrading laptops capable of running CAD software and a tablet device with virtual pen enabling documents and lecture notes to be annotated; a 3D printer and gaining experience and knowledge in alternative manufacture and design techniques; purchase of high quality engineering tools and precision measuring equipment.
All will be particularly helpful to enable them to overcome the difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic limiting access to University workshops, labs, software and databases.
